THE GENESIS OF A Parish.Academy

DIOCESE / PASTOR LED - Can. 802 §1. If schools which offer an education imbued with a Christian spirit are not available, it is for the diocesan bishop to take care that they are established.

  • Parish.Academy can provide Diocese and Parishes with a comprehensive school startup and operations management service that allows the Diocesan office of Education or the Pastor of the host parish as appropriate to focus on selecting the leadership of the school and overseeing its Catholicity and pastoral needs.
  • Tuition can be set to cover 100% of the school’s operating costs, be subsidized from diocese, parish or philanthropic resources or generate revenue to contribute to the overall operating expense of the host parish.
  • In a number of States, parents can use vouchers, educational savings accounts, tax-credit scholarship funds and other such programs to pay for Parish.Academy tuition. For existing schools that are to be converted to the Parish.Academy model, ongoing staffing may come from retention of existing staff or be hired on a de novo basis at the discretion of the diocese / pastor.
  • Parish.Academy offers an unique opportunity to keep a Catholic school open even if enrollment has fallen substantially and with unsubsidized total costs of $3,850 or less the tuition will be within the means of a greater number of parishioners. Please consult with us before announcing a school closing and let us offer you with a no-cost solution.

PARENT LEDCan. 798 Parents are to entrust their children to those schools which provide a Catholic education. If they are unable to do this, they are obliged to take care that suitable Catholic education is provided for their children outside the schools.

  • In Parishes that do not offer a Catholic school, parents can consider approaching their Pastor with a request that the Parish host a Parish.Academy independent Catholic school with no financial obligation falling upon the Parish. This governance structure can also be adopted when parents from multiple parishes are joining together to create a multi-parish school.
  • Independent Catholic schools will require the express approval of the Bishop and we can assist you to prepare a governance structure that will provide appropriate assurances as to the Catholicity off the school.
  • After establishment the Bishop will exercise a permanent responsibility for the oversight of the school and we will assist you to put in place systems to meet and demonstrate compliance with all required standards.
  • In addition to the educational services required to establish and operate the school we can also provide you with guidance related to all of the requirements related to accreditation, licensing, non-profit status and Canon & Civil Law.

TEACHER LED - Can. 803 §2. The instruction and education in a Catholic school must be grounded in the principles of Catholic doctrine; teachers are to be outstanding in correct doctrine and integrity of life.

  • Accomplished Catholic teachers who are called to work in and/or lead a Catholic school can enter into the Parish.Academy discernment process with a view to later identifying a Parish that is seeking leadership for a Parish operated school or being matched with a Parish that is prepared to host a Parish.Academy as an independent Catholic school.
  • For teachers that complete discernment, Parish.Academy will provide full training in the pedagogies and systems utilized in the Parish.Academy model at no cost to the teacher.
  • The Parish.Academy model offers teachers a unique opportunity to remain in the classroom while enjoying considerable flexibility to adapt curriculum delivery to the needs of the individual student.
  • The Parish.Academy model has a flat reporting structure meaning that each teacher participates in the management of their school’s program and the development of the overall model and curriculum.
  • Parish.Academy teachers are valued both as highly skilled professionals and as role-models for the student body. To ensure that teachers are able to spend as much time as possible focused on the needs of individual students, teacher time is leveraged by specially trained blended learning facilitators and technology that eliminates may routine administrative tasks.

ORDER LEDCan. 801 Religious institutes whose proper mission is education, retaining their mission faithfully, are also to strive to devote themselves to Catholic education through their schools, established with the consent of the diocesan bishop.

  • Parish.Academy can provide religious Orders with a comprehensive school startup and operations management suite that allows the Order to focus on selecting the leadership of the school and overseeing the Catholicity and pastoral needs of the school.
  • Faculty for the school may be religious, consecrated or lay and transition training programs are available to support faculty that are already associated with the Order.
  • At the discretion of the Order, tuition can be set to cover 100% of the school’s operating costs, be subsidized from philanthropic resources or generate revenue to contribute to the general funds of the Order.
  • Order led Parish Academies can be new schools, the conversion of existing Order administered schools or the adoption by the Order of responsibility for an existing Catholic school.
